Summary of Sale Bulls - Pedigree and EBVs

QUALITY SETS SCENE FOR 2012 BULL SALE

The 2012 Te Mania Angus Autumn On-Property Bull Sale team is 154 bulls of outstanding evenness and representing the cutting edge of the Angus breed.

And providing seedstock breeders with next-generation sires and commercial producers with access to the country’s leading genetics at commercially-affordable prices.

Whilst 154 bulls is a lot to get through in a day, it was almost impossible to trim the team – from the first lot to the last.

“While we have had some good catalogues in the past I cannot recall one being this consistent, with every bull in such good shape,” Tom says.

They are big, healthy and ready to work and our dominance of Angus Group Breedplan trait leaders means there will be the right combination of figures to suit any operation.

The 2011 sale at its Mortlake headquarters saw Te Mania Angus set a new Australian Angus on-property sale record with its $91,000 super sire Te Mania Emperor E343.

In the same sale, of the 114 bulls sold, 61 sold for less than $7,000, at an average price of $4,762.  These 61 bulls still had an average Long Fed $Index of $114, which puts them in the top 15% of the breed, which is "unbelievable value" for money.

2011 was capped off with Te Mania Angus being named the ABC Rural-Kondinin Group Australian livestock producer of the year.

Tom says the 22 sons of the $65,000 bull Te Mania Berkley B1, sold to iconic Cooma, NSW, stud Hazeldean, and father of Te Mania Emperor E343, will be a feature of the 2012 sale.

Other bulls by Te Mania-bred sires to stand out in the line up are the 21 sons from latest sires Te Mania Calamus C46 and 19 sons from Te Mania Daiquiri D19.

One of the most exciting opportunities in the beef market is the significant increase in Australia’s access to the EU market.  This is a high-quality, longfed market where the greatest demand will be on cattle which have the highest marbling potential.

We have concentrated on marbling for the past 20 years and achieved extraordinary growth and with marbling compliance crucial in the European market, genetics are the only way you can get there. And that’s what we have to offer.

Tom says with these sires, and others handpicked to complement Australian conditions and Angus markets – both domestically and for export – the 2012 catalogue has so many of the bulls with figures at the top of the breed.

For the feedlot market:
·         100 bulls are in the top 15 pc of the breed for Longfed/CAAB Index (>+111)
·         66 bulls are in the top 5 pc of the breed for IMF (>+2.2)
·         66 Bulls are in the top 25 pc of the breed for 600-day weight (>+99)

And for breeding/calving ease:
·         71 bulls are in the top 25 pc of the breed for calving ease direct (>+1.4)
·         59 bulls are in the top 25 pc of the breed for birthweight (<+3.6)
·         60 bulls are in the top 10 pc of the breed for gestation length (<-4.4)
·         77 bulls are in the top 25 pc of the breed for scrotal size (>+1.8)

Tom says Te Mania Angus has always been conscious of breeding to bend the growth curve – keeping birthweight and gestation length EBVs down to ensure ease of calving, while retaining growth.

There are many ideal heifer bulls in the sale which are below breed average for birthweight but still well above the breed average for growth, combined with ideal structure for calving.

Structure is all important at Te Mania Angus and the herd has once again been strictly and independently assessed by Jim Green of BeefXcel.

At the Beef Week Field Day, on Thursday, February 2, the sale catalogue will be available, hot off the press, giving interested breeders the chance to look through the sale bulls prior to sale day.

Our Guarantee

Any Te Mania Angus bull that proves to be structurally unsound, infertile or incapable of service is guaranteed for up to three years from date of sale.

Under these circumstances Te Mania Angus will:
1) Replace the bull with a satisfactory substitute if available, or
2) Issue a refund equal to the value remaining (see below), less the salvage value.
The guarantee covers the purchase value of the bull, without interest, cost and damages.  The guarantee shall apply providing the bull's incapacity is not caused by injury or disease contracted since leaving Te Mania Angus.  The value remaining is calculated on the basis that the guarantee is reduced by one third of the purchase price for each year of service from the sale date.  A Veterinary certificate must be supplied by the purchaser on request.
If any bull that is purchased does not possess a reasonable fertility, although not totally infertile, any dispute that may arise shall be settled by an arbitrator appointed by the auctioneers and must be lodged within 12 calendar months from date of sale.
We recommend that all purchasers discuss injury insurance of their bulls at the sale with Elders Ltd or their Agent.  This guarantee is in addition to the normal terms and conditions governing auction sales.

Health Treatments

All the sale bulls are vaccinated for Vibriosis and Pestivirus (BVDV) prior to sale.  We recommend that any bull that is purchased receives an annual booster for both these diseases.
All of our bulls receive 7 in 1 vaccinations at three-months of age, six weeks later and a booster as a yearling.  They are drenched at weaning and periodically according to worm counts.
All sale bulls are tested free of AMF, NHF or CAF, or are pedigree free ANFU, NHFU or AMFU.
All Te Mania Angus bulls are examined by a veterinarian prior to sale day which includes palpation of the sexual anatomy and the circumference of the testicles.  The jaw is checked for correct bite.    See also Bull Management
